The Beatitudes

Quoting our President, George W. Bush:

"In prayer, we open ourselves to Gods' priority, especially his charge to feed the hungry, to reach out to the poor, to bring aid to the widow or the orphan."

From his speech at the National Prayer Breakfast, held the day after the House passed a budget cutting, among other things, food stamps, Medicaid, and child care assistance.

As found in the April 2006 "Sojourners" magazine.

No commentary needed.

Lindy Scott

A guest posting from Andrea Sheimo

Hi. I just wanted to spread the word on a campaign going on in the suburbs outside of Chicago, Illinois. Its a campaign between two very *typical* democratic candidates and one very unique democratic candidate in the democratic primary for the retiring Henry Hyde's former seat.

The unique candidate is an evangelical Christian and a professor at Wheaton College named Lindy Scott.

Lindy is gaining ground despite the fact that he has managed to raise less money and, in the beginning, less support within the party, than the two other candidates running. I think people within the party were (for obvious reasons) resistant at first but he is now running neck and neck with the other two candidates! It seems he is really speaking to the voters.

This is the final stretch - the last week of the campaign and Im trying to get the word out on this unique candidate. Its such an exciting campaign and an exciting time, too, because Lindy can actually win this primary. And he is the candidate most likely to go on to defeat the republican candidate replacing Hyde, Peter Roskam. This is a seat that has been held by republican Henry Hyde for 32 years!

Here is his website. Please read the piece on cherishing life under "issues." Its a great summary of his positions on the issues:

Im hoping that you'll mention him. Please consider it. He is so close. This race is tight and any word you can get out in support of him can really help!

Thanks so much!!
