Man vs. Woman, Clinton v. Obama

I find it interesting that Barack Obama better expresses the typically female traits of nurturing, hope, pride in the group and belief in a better day while Hillary Clinton often shows the typically male traits of strength, determination, belief in self and desire to engage.

I’m not saying either is bad, just that it’s interesting that the roles seem to be switched in the current campaigns. Quite likely each campaign has had meetings about the respective natures of gender and works consciously to NOT be too much of what they are while trying harder to exemplify their opponent's traits in themselves.

That may be the cynic in me, though. Perhaps it is just who each of them is.

It's going to be a painful couple of months, folks. Let's be kind.

Now, I'll state right up front that as much as I am loving reading through your blog, we are backing different horses in this particlar race. It's all for the same goals though, so all is well. I only mention for sake of disclosure. :)

Dispite the fact that both candidates are a nominee of "firsts" it sometimes feels as if the social perceptions of gender are the wider devide to be scaled here. A male who acts as you discribe Senetor Obama is seen as compasionate and rare. A woman who does the same, is often seen as typically female, which is fine, but also lacking in that other kind of strength, which is both inaccurate and sad.

If you look at the focus and traits exhibited by Hilary Clinton, First Lady, they seem to come much more from that first catagory. Senetor Clinton had to transition into a relm that while not exclusively male, was largely so, and now, as a candidate for the Presidency, it is even more true. As such, she may feel the need to show that she possesses thouse tradisionally male aspects as well as those displayed in the past.

This is something that many women deal with when working within a male sphere, and its dangerous ground. Dangerous because while there are thse in our society that wuld see the posession of maculine strengths in a woman as a lack of feminine strengh, while few would venture to say the reverse of a man.

Painful? Oh no! Marvelous! It is through our struggles that God most often reveals our deepest truth, or greastest stregths and weaknesses. And it is through debate and observation, and consideration that we as human beings may make discoveries about one another. This is the highest office of our government, and the path to its door should not be smooth an easy walking, but rather a climb.

Have a great day, and keep up the grea work!
